Comfort is not important...(your values are)

When you truly value something, you will stick to your principles regardless of how you are feeling moment-to-moment.

Too many times we say we value something, yet find ourselves acting in opposition to that because of how we feel in the heat of the moment. When we aren't being tested, it's easy to say that we value our friends and family; it's easy to say that we value equality; it's easy to say we value the lives of others.

But when we find ourselves in difficult situations, THIS is what determines whether we truly value those things or not...whether we will pass the test or not. When times get rough, do you have your family's back? When you're reaping the benefits of your privilege, do you use your voice to speak up and support those without it?

In these difficult situations, your comfort and other people's opinions are not important. Your values and what you know to be ethical must take precedence. You cannot stick to your principles unless you understand that it takes sacrifice.

True character is upholding our principles and values in spite of what might be convenient or comfortable for us. We have to normalise this.

Your values should mean more than your own comfort.
